Youssef Ramadan (43.15) And Josh Liendo (43.40) Become #2 And #3 100 Fly Performers Ever

2023 NCAA DIVISION I MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

We saw a thrilling showdown in the 100 fly final at the 2023 NCAA men’s swimming and diving championships, with Virginia Tech’s Youssef Ramadan touching the wall first in a time of 43.15 to become the second-fastest performer in history and 0.35 seconds behind Caeleb Dressel‘s NCAA record. Meanwhile, runner-up Josh Liendo of Florida swam a 43.40 and is now the #3 performer all-time.

Ramadan breaks his own ACC record time of 43.90 set at 2022 NCAAs. In addition, his win marks Virginia Tech’s first-ever individual NCAA title. Liendo’s best time prior to this race was his 43.80 from prelims, which beat out his pre-meet PB of 44.11

Liendo was out 0.07 seconds faster than Ramadan at the 50-yard mark, but Ramadan’s back half was a whooping 0.43 seconds quicker than Liendo’s. Compared to Dressel’s NCAA record, Ramadan was 0.22 seconds slower on the front half and 0.13 seconds slower on the back half.
