WWE is sending IYO SKY to Marigold for a joshi dream match

Marigold founder Rossy Ogawa was present at WWE events during WrestleMania 40 week in Philadelphia — and even appeared on-screen with his WWE-bound star Giulia during NXT Stand & Deliver. And if that wasn’t enough to confirm there would be a working relationship between the ex-Stardom boss’ new joshi promotion and WWE, we recently had Ogawa himself saying that Triple H’s support during a conversation they had last December encouraged him to launch Marigold.

Reports also indicate that Giulia will continue to appear for Marigold after making her WWE debut this summer, and there were rumors Ogawa was interested in bringing in some of the Japanese women currently on the WWE roster. We now have confirmation of that happening.

It came during Marigold’s show today (June 11) in Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall, their last before their big Summer Destiny event next month. Utami Hayashishita had just defeated Nanae Takahashi in the main event when Ogawa got on the microphone to let Hayashishta know he’d found her an opponent for July 13 — former WWE Women’s champion IYO SKY.

Google translation of SKY’s message reads:

I will be participating in the #Marigold ring as a WWE Superstar. July 13th Ryogoku Kokugikan

The “dream match” of female pro wrestling fans not only in Japan but all over the world will come true.

This premium battle will never happen again… Please look forward to it.

As Io Shirai, SKY wrestled for Ogawa at Stardom for nearly seven years before officially joining WWE in 2018 — twice winning the promotion’s top title, the World of Stardom championship. She’s never wrestled Hayashishita (a former World of Stardom champ as well), who joined Stardom after her exit. Shortly after arriving in the promotion, Hayashishita joined the Queen’s Quest stable Shirai led before heading to the United States.

Now they’ll go one-on-one as part of WWE’s most high-profile partnership with a Japanese promotion in years.
