Sarfaraz Khan smashes another ton in Ranji Trophy

Sarfaraz Khan, who is representing Mumbai in the ongoing Ranji Trophy, has continued his spectacular form, smashing his second century in the prestigious tournament on Wednesday (January 4).

The right-handed batter reached the three-figure mark on the second day of Mumbai’s match against Tamil Nadu at Brabourne Stadium. Sarfaraz came out to bat when Mumbai were in trouble losing their three wickets for just 79 in reply to Tamil Nadu’s first-inning total of 144. Mumbai were soon 90/4 as they lost skipper Ajinkya Rahane (42).

The 41-times Ranji Trophy winners needed someone to bail them out, and Sarfaraz stepped up, adding 167 runs for the seventh wicket with Tanush Kotian (71). The 25-year-old smashed his second century of the ongoing season and kept founding boundaries to help his side post a big total.

As soon as Sarfraz completed his hundred, the middle-order batter celebrated it animatedly as he was heard saying: “Come on boys, come on”. The video of his celebration is getting viral on various social media platforms.

Sarfaraz went on to score 162 from 220 deliveries, with the help of 19 fours and a six. Tailender Mohit Awasthi also chipped in with a crucial 69 off 97 balls as Mumbai posted a humungous 481 in 106.4 overs.

Notably, Sarfaraz has been performing exceptionally well in the domestic arena. In the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy, he scored 982 runs in six matches and followed it up with 928 runs in the 2019–20 season.

In the ongoing edition, Sarfaraz has continued from where he left off. He smashed an unbeaten 126 against Hyderabad in the team’s second match and scored 75 and 20 against Saurashtra in the third game. The ongoing match against Tamil Nadu is Mumbai’s fourth game, and the former Uttar Pradesh cricketer has hit a hundred. Overall, it was Sarfaraz’s 12th century in 50 first-class innings.
