The Minnesota Vikings are set to hire Pittsburgh Steelers senior defensive analyst Brian Flores as their defensive coordinator, according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Rapoport added Flores was considered a finalist for the Arizona Cardinals head coaching role and also interviewed for the Denver Broncos defensive coordinator role.
Flores spent his 2022 season as a senior defensive assistant and linebackers coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was previously the head coach of the Miami Dolphins from 2019 to 2021. After a league-worst defensive performance in 2019, Flories’ Dolphins finished 11th and 10th in defensive DVOA the next two seasons.
The Minnesota Vikings hope Flores will turn around a defense on the downswing. Minnesota finished the 2022 season 27th in defensive DVOA; their 6.7% defensive DVOA is the team’s worst since 2013.
