Paris Saint-Germain again gave in against Stade Rennais. As in the first leg (0-1), the capital club lost against the Breton club (0-2), Sunday at the Parc des Princes, as part of the 28th day of Ligue 1. Surprised in second period on goals from Karl Toko Ekambi and Arnaud Kalimuendo, Christophe Galtier’s players keep control of the standings with another seven lengths ahead of Olympique de Marseille. But this umpteenth poor performance goes badly as Kylian Mbappé’s teammates played their first match in front of their supporters since the elimination against Bayern Munich in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

“It’s a complicated moment”

The setback suffered by the reigning French champion made Marco Verratti jump. In a message posted on instagram, the Italian midfielder did not use the language of wood when analyzing the performance of the team. The 30-year-old wanted to remobilize his teammates for the next deadlines and the eleventh league title that Paris Saint-Germain should, barring a dramatic change, win in May. “A game to forget. Thank you to everyone at the stadium for the support. It’s a complicated moment but we have a big goal to achieve together.”

“I don’t plan on my future”

Meager consolation prize at the heart of a 2022-2023 season which will not go down in history, a new national coronation should not be enough to save the head of Christophe Galtier, chosen last summer to ensure the succession of the Argentinian Mauricio Pochettino and under contract until June 2024. After the meeting against the SRFC, the Parisian coach spoke about his future. “I don’t project myself into my future or my future. I project myself on the ten matches that remain to finish the championship by being champion of France, by making good matches, by winning.
