Vanderbilt women’s team fell against South Carolina

Vanderbilt University women’s tennis team, ranked no. 23, fell 4-1 yesterday, Sunday 19 March 2023, against no. 34 South Carolina, dropping to 2-4 in the SEC. Now Vanderbilt will come back to play on Friday, March 24 at Arkansas and Sunday, March 26, at Missouri.

In singles, three of the first sets decided in tiebreaks and all but two matches ending in three sets. Dores were unable to muster up points on singles courts.

In doubles, Celia-Belle Mohr and Marcella Cruz finished first with their 6-3 win on court 2, putting Vanderbilt in position to clinch the doubles point. On Court 3, Anessa Lee and Bridget Stammel came back from a 4-1 deficit to win their match 7-5, giving the team the lead going into singles. While on Court 1 she did not finish her game, Anna Ross and Holly Staff traded leads with South Carolina’s Ayana Akli and Allie Gretkowski to end it in a 6-6 tie.
