UEFA plans two new reforms

UEFA is turning national football upside down. Meeting this Wednesday in Nyon, the executive committee will address several topics and implement two major reforms, according to AS. The first concerns the new qualification phase for the World Cup, which from 2026 will have 48 participants and 16 European teams, instead of the 12 so far. The idea is to establish a competition with 12 groups of four or five teams and to ensure that the first 12 are directly qualified. The other four places would be contested in the playoffs.

The other big novelty concerns the Nations League. Instead of the former qualifying directly for the Final Four, as so far, a playoff will be set up after the group stage which will also include the latter. The winners of these playoffs will be those who will play the Final Four. To see now if these two reforms will be validated by the whole committee.
