On the first playoff hole (hole 18, par 5), Gooch teed around the water hazard, hitting a perfect second shot to center green, where he easily birdied in two shots.

Garcia’s second shot, however, ended up in the bunker around the green and the Spaniard was unable to write a birdie, giving Gooch his second consecutive victory and a prize pool of 4 million dollars.

“It’s one of those days that I will remember,” Gooch said. “I grew up watching Sergio. He is one of the greatest golfers of this generation. Challenging him and coming out on top is something I will never forget.”
