Strasbourg offers Montpellier, Angers stands up to Lorient, Nantes revives

This Sunday afternoon took place the traditional 3 p.m. multiplex with in particular a poster at the bottom of the table between Strasbourg and Montpellier. The Strasbourgeois, at La Meinau and who had not won a single match this season at home, hoped to break the curse against a Montpellier team which has won only 2 of its last 13 Ligue 1 matches. And it all started very badly for the visitors since Strasbourg scored after only 13 seconds of play. On a good cross from Morgan Sanson, Habib Diallo opened the scoring and put his team on the right track. But the game changed at the half-hour mark with the exclusion of Aholou for a big sole on Fayad.

We then expected to see Montpellier come back… but it was the Strasbourg residents who drove the point home. After an error from Kouyaté, Habib Diallo offered himself a double (2-0, 45th) and sealed the victory for his people since even in numerical superiority, Montpellier did not return. In the standings, Strasbourg remains in the red zone, but returns to one point behind the first non-relegation player. Still at the bottom of the table, Angers, bottom of the championship and who remained on 13 rank defeats in the championship, moved on the lawn of Lorient. Les Merlus, at home, launched Bamba Dieng and Romain Faivre on the front line of the attack. But despite a good Lorient domination and good chances, the match never got carried away and the score did not move. Angers was at least able to stop the bleeding with this draw but the maintenance operation is still very far away for the moment. Lorient remains at the top of the table but experiences a good setback.

Auxerre does not succeed, Nantes revives

Another match which concerned a relegated team: Ajaccio – Nantes. The Corsicans, at home, hoped to confirm their victory against Angers earlier in the week with another victory this Sunday. Faced with the formation of Antoine Kombouaré without Andy Delort, still on the bench, Ajaccio did not know how to pack the match. In a balanced match marked by numerous faults, the Canaries managed to find the fault in the second half. Guessand shook the opposing nets as did Ludovic Blas from the penalty spot (90th). After their defeat against OM on Wednesday, FC Nantes rebounds and pushes Ajaccio a little further, which is still in 18th place.

Finally in the last match of this 3 p.m. multiplex, Auxerre and Reims parted ways with a sad 0-0. Will Still’s men were not as inspired as in the last matches and Balogun, the championship’s top scorer, was very discreet. Same story for Auxerre who, at home, did not manage to pack the game and are still struggling to take points in this Ligue 1. Christophe Pelissier’s men remain 19th and see the competition move away slowly, but certainly.
