on

Stefanos Tsitsipas, 24, says the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray made him the player he is today. Tsitsipas, ranked at No 5 in the world, beat three-time Grand Slam champion Murray 7-6 (3) 6-7 (2) 4-6 7-6 (3) 6-4 in the Wimbledon second round. After the match, two-time Grand Slam champion Tsitsipas paid tribute to Murray and the entire Big Four.

“It is never easy against Andy. I know everyone loves him here. It was a very difficult game and I was very impressed with his level. Having had two surgeries, I was very impressed with his level today and I wish him the very best.  As I mentioned a few days ago, I had goosebumps when he won his first Wimbledon title here. I felt for him, how much it meant, this courageous run that he had, I think in 2012 if I’m not wrong. He was part of the top four for a very long time and I looked up to him, I looked up to Novak, Roger and Rafa. These four guys shaped the game and they are the reason I am the player I am today,” Tsitsipas said after the match.

Tsitsipas paid tribute to Murray, Federer, Nadal & Djokovic

Tsitsipas has accomplished something that not many players have been able to do – the Greek has beaten at least twice Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, and Murray. After beating Murray at Wimbledon, Tsitsipas improved to 2-1 against the Briton. Now, Tsitsipas is turning his focus on continuing his Wimbledon run and potentially sealing his first Grand Slam title at The Championships. At Wimbledon, Tsitsipas has yet to make it past the round-of-16. But Tsitsipas is looking good at this year’s Wimbledon and it seems this could be the year the Greek makes his big breakthrough at The All England Club. It remains to be seen if Tsitsipas can go all the way and accomplish his dream of becoming a Grand Slam champion at the most prestigious tnenis tournament.
