CLASSIC MXA PHOTOS: PROOF POSITIVE THAT THE GUY WHO NEVER CRASHES ACTUALLY DOES

This photo was shot at Saddleback Park in the 1980s during a yellow Yamaha YZ125 photo shoot when he over-cooked it into a berm.

MXA editor Jody Weisel has been at MXA since 1976. In those 47 years he has raced thousands of times and been photographed more times than imaginable, but when we searched the MXA archives for crash photos of Jody, we could only find three. When we ask him how it was possible to race so many races and not crash more often, he said, “I crashed once at Carlsbad in 1975 and I didn’t like it, So, I vowed not to do it anymore.”

A decade later we captured Jody swapping a white Yamaha YZ250 through the whoops at Perris Raceway.

We didn’t actually catch Jody crashing in 2017 when he was blinded by the sun on his way up Mt. Saint Helen. How bright was the sun? The 15 riders behind Jody crashed also. As for Jody, he left his bike laying on the track (upper right) and walked down the hill holding his left arm, which was broken in two places.
