Roger Federer has congratulated Novak Djokovic on winning a record 10th Australian Open title, describing it as “an incredible effort.”

Djokovic, 35, defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Australian Open final to win a record 10th Australian Open title and overall his 22nd Grand Slam.

Federer, who retired from pro tennis after last year’s Laver Cup, won six titles at Melbourne Park during his illustrious career.

“Incredible effort, again! Many congratulation,” Federer captioned his Instagram Story.

Djokovic showed his respect for Djokovic

After beating Andrey Rublev in the Australian Open quarterfinal, Djokovic mentioned Federer during his on-court interview.

Djokovic hailed Federer as “one of the most important players in tennis history” and asked the crowd to give the Swiss a big round of applause.

“Let us give him a big round of applause, to Roger, guys. He deserves it! I had some great battles over the years with Roger, that is for sure. Tennis misses him, for sure. I have seen him dressing up very sharply for [Paris] Fashion Week the other day! I have seen him skiing. I want to challenge him for a little skiing race in a few years’ time. But, yeah, he is enjoying life, for sure, it is nice to see that. Obviously for tennis, he has been one of the most important players ever to play the game. So, big regards to his family,” Djokovic said on-court following his Australian Open quarterfinal win over Andrey Rublev.

Meanwhile, Federer retired from pro tennis in late September at the Laver Cup.

In what was the final tournament of his career, Federer was accompanied by Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray.

In the final match of his career, Federer teamed up with Nadal for a doubles match.

While Federer and Nadal were playing their doubles match, Djokovic and Murray were cheering on them from the Team Europe bench.

After everything was over, Federer said it was a very special and memorable sendoff.
