Former six-time Grand Slam doubles champion Rennae Stubbs praised Andy Murray for his philanthropic work.
Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion, pledged earlier this year to donate all of his prize money from 2022 to help the children of Ukraine affected by the war.
The 2022 season finished and Murray donated $630,000 to help the children of Ukraine.
Murray’s good deed earned him the 2022 Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award.
Now, Murray is the fourth ATP player ever to win two Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Awards.
Stubbs on Murray: Off the court, there is no better guy
“Obviously the guy has a lot of money. He clearly has made a lot of money from the sport of tennis but it’s still well over half a million dollars to give away. It’s pretty phenomenal. That is his money, he earned, he’s just one of the great guys. He gets a bad rap. He’s a little tough to watch sometime. He carries on at times on the court like a pork chop. We know that we’ve given him a crack about it. You know, he’s a bit whiny, compliancy. But, off the tennis court, there’s no better guy, there’s no nicer guy, there’s no funnier guy,” Stubbs said on the Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast.
Meanwhile, Murray is preparing to kick off his 2023 season.
Murray, 35, recently confirmed that he intends to start the 2023 season at the Adelaide International.
In Adelaide, Murray will be making his debut and will certainly be hoping to get good preparation for the Australian Open.
After not accomplishing his goal of making a deep Grand Slam run this year, Murray will try to do so in 2023.
At the Australian Open, Murray has five finals but he has never won the title.
It remains to be seen how well can Murray do during the upcoming Australian swing.
