The Los Angeles Rams have agreed to release linebacker Bobby Wagner upon the start of the new league year, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter

Wagner signed a five-year, $50 million contract with the Rams in April last year. While the deal had an average cap hit of $12 million between 2023 and 2026 if rostered, Wagner’s deal had just $3.5 million in guaranteed money remaining, all allocated for 2023. According to OverTheCap, releasing Wagner frees up $5 million of cap space this year with a dead cap hit of $7.5 million.

The former Seattle Seahawks linebacker started all 17 games for the Rams last season, leading the team with 140 combined tackles and 10 tackles for loss. He finished second on the team with six sacks and notched a pair of interceptions.

Wagner enters free agency as one of the premier linebackers available, joining Lavonte Davis, Tremaine Edmunds, Drue Tranquill, and Kyzir White among others.
