The original winners for the women’s and men’s Royal Rumble were Shayna Baszler and Roman Reigns. The idea was that Reigns would win and challenge the Fiend for the WWE Universal title. The match between Reigns and Wyatt is still planned for Wrestlemania but they’ll just have to get there a different way. The winners were changed in the middle of the month as they planned out their road to Wrestlemania.
The plans for Baszler to win were changed when betting odds for Charlotte winning began to overtake hers.
Kane was never scheduled to be a part of the Royal Rumble despite his promo a few weeks ago where he announced that he was.
MVP is only back for a few appearances. This is not a long term thing.
Edge’s first program back will be with Randy Orton. The seeds were already planted as the former Rated RKO teammates turned on each other during the Rumble. Orton attempted to RKO Edge when he wasn’t looking, which Edge took personally and eliminated him instead. Orton seemed irritated but blew it off and left.
