It was expected, or not. And for good reason, the uncertainty around this file was at its peak in the last few hours. Already at the heart of many rumors during the last summer transfer window, Bamba Dieng was once again talked about during the winter window. Coveted by the Premier League and in particular by Leeds and Everton, the 22-year-old Senegalese striker is finally flying to Brittany where he has just signed a 4.5-year contract with FC Lorient.
If the club’s press release to formalize the news has not yet been published on its official website, FC Lorient has formalized the transfer of the Senegalese international through a simple photo montage, accompanied by his description: “Bamba Dieng is from Lorient.” He arrives in Brittany against a check for 7 million euros, accompanied by 3 M€ in variables.
Bamba Dieng, the end of a very long soap opera!
Arrived on the Canebière in October 2020, Bamba Dieng will thus continue his progress with the Hakes after an interesting passage on the side of OM. Increasingly impactful over the meetings despite a few complicated weeks, especially when Igor Tudor arrived on the Marseille bench, the Teranga Lions striker (17 caps, 2 goals) will therefore have totaled 11 goals and 4 assists in 58 matches in all competitions for Marseille.
Initially used as a bargaining chip in the Terem Moffi case before the latter decided to reject OM, Bamba Dieng, who saw his contract run until June 2024 in the Marseille city, will therefore discover a new region, despite a medical examination which will have, for a time, cast doubt on its future. Under the orders of Régis Le Bris, the promising striker will now try to pass a new course and thus help the Hakes, seventh, to stay at the top of the classification.
