Both Irvine Novaquatics and Pleasanton Seahawks achieved their goal of breaking the boys’ 13-14 national age group (NAG) record in the 4×200-yard freestyle relay during time trials on Sunday afternoon at CA/NV Sectionals in La Mirada, California.

Novaquatics crushed the previous NAG record by nearly four seconds, clocking a 6:51.26 thanks to some consistently strong efforts from Peter Vu (1:42.05), Avrum Xagorarakis (1:42.28), Andrew Maksymowski (1:42.28), and Max Stewart (1:44.60). The old mark belonged to SwimMAC Carolina, whose quartet of Max Osman (1:42.91), Mason Turner (1:41.84), Norvin Clontz (1:46.21), and Granger Bartee (1:44.20) posted a 6:55.16 in March of 2021.

The Seahawks, on the other hand, relied on a blazing back half to register the second-fastest time ever in the boys’ 13-14 NAG. Ethan Wang (1:48.52), Oryan Liu (1:47.58), Tim Wu (1:39.13), and Luka Mijatovic (1:39.90) combined for a total of 6:55.13. Later on Sunday, the 13-year-old Mijatovic went on to lower the boys’ 13-14 NAG record in the 500 free. The only 13-year-old on either relay team, he recorded the second-fastest split in the field behind Wu.
