Novak Djokovic revealed he quit Wednesday’s practice because he didn’t want to risk aggravating his hamstring injury.

On Wednesday, Djokovic required treatment during his practice match against Daniil Medvedev.

After losing the first set of his practice match, Djokovic decided to call it a day after just 36 minutes on the practice court.

Over the weekend, Djokovic pulled his hamstring during his Adelaide semifinal against Medvedev.

“It’s the hamstring that I had problems with in Adelaide last week. I just felt it pulling and I didn’t want to risk anything worse. I played a set and apologised to him [Medvedev] and he was understanding. I just want to avoid any bigger scares before the Australian Open,” Djokovic told 9News Melbourne.

Djokovic dealing with an injury ahead of the Australian Open

In Adelaide, Djokovic started his season with a title but also contracted an injury.

For Djokovic, it was great to start the season with a title.

But now comes the much more important tournament to him – the Australian Open.

In order to win the Australian Open, Djokovic will have to win seven matches.

For Djokovic, it will be extremely important to keep his hamstring injury in check or otherwise things could go wrong for him.

“Of course, Australian Open is the biggest reason why I’m here in Australia, but at the same time I want to win every tournament I play on, regardless of the level of the tournament. I love playing in Australia. I mean, my results are a testament to that. I wouldn’t be able to play so well in a place where I don’t feel well. I look forward to Melbourne. Rod Laver is probably my most — not probably, it certainly is my most successful court in my career. I love playing there. I look forward to it,” Djokovic said.

It remains to be seen how will Djokovic’s hamstring look when he kicks off his Australian Open campaign.
