New York Jets QB Mike White

The New York Jets have announced that quarterback Mike White has been cleared to play by team doctors. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, White will return to his previous position as starter.

White missed the last two weeks after taking a shot to the ribs during the Jets’ loss to the Buffalo Bills, starting Zach Wilson in his absence. Wilson and backup Chris Streveler combined for a -55.9% offensive passing DVOA during the Jets’ loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday night. Wilson posted a 22.0% offensive passing DVOA in Week 15 against the Detroit Lions, playing 100% of offensive snaps for the first time since Week 11.

According to Jets head coach Robert Saleh, White will be the starting quarterback while Joe Flacco will serve as the primary backup.

“The plan for Zach, again, it hasn’t changed,” said Saleh via SNY’s Jets Videos. “I still think he’s got a future here. I still think he’s going to be a really good quarterback. He just needs time to sit back and continue the development that we were trying to re-kickstart, if you will, after the New England game. We still have him in our future and in our plans.”

In the three games started by White this season, the Jets offense has a 24.8% passing DVOA. This serves as the best by a Jets starting quarterback this season. Wilson’s nine games as starter produced a 0.7% passing DVOA, while Joe Flacco posted a -1.0% passing DVOA over three starts.
