Miami Open: Alcaraz, Sinner and the day-7 Highlights

on

Carlos Alcaraz flies to the quarterfinals of the Miami Open 2023, thanks to a convincing victory in straight sets, with a double 6-4, against the US Tommy Paul. Alcaraz will now face Taylor Fritz, who defeated Holger Rune 6-3 6-4.

With an extraordinary show of strength, Jannik Sinner defeated Andrey Rublev in just over seventy minutes of play, qualifying for the quarterfinals of the Miami Open.

Without ever giving the Russian tennis player the chance to play or, more simply, to play even, Sinner, who had found more quantity than quality during the previous three rounds, places himself among the top eight in the ATP Masters 1000 in Miami for the third time in his career with a 6-2 6-4 which frankly leaves little room for interpretations.

Also because he leaves only eight points on the street with the serve available and also manages the matter from the baseline and in prolonged exchanges perfectly. As a veteran. Waiting for him was Emiil Ruusuvuori, who beat Botis Van de Zandschlup.

The Russian Daniil Medvedev also did well, advancing without problems to the next round, defeated the French Halys in straight sets 6-4; 6-2. Karen Khachanov eliminated Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Lorenzo Sonego’s adventure at the Indian Wells Masters 1000 stops in the round of 16. After the matches started late in the night due to the rain, the tennis player from Turin yields in three sets, loses undergoing the comeback of the Argentine Francisco Cerundolo, always at ease here at the Miami Open.

Challenge where the Argentinian appeared more in control of the match, too many errors and a less incisive serve by Sonego with Cerundolo who made several breaks during the match. The first came in the fifth game of the first set with Sonego having a vehement reaction in this case.

Below the highlights of the day-7:

About the women tournament, great victory for Jessica Pegula who is one step away from the abyss, cancels two match points on her opponent’s serve and then closes the match at the decisive tiebreak, against the Russian Potapova.

Martina Trevisan really only fights in the first set but has to surrender to Elena Rybakina, already winner at Indian Wells and now a great favorite for this Miami Open.
