Mary Joe Fernandez: “One of Roger Federer’s kids is crazy about tennis”

In the latest edition of the Holding Court podcast hosted by Patrick McEnroe, Mary Joe Fernandez, former player and current wife of Tony Godsick, revealed that one of Roger Federer’s skids is very attracted to tennis.

She told: “Although his career is over, Federer still loves tennis very much. All of his children play tennis and really enjoy playing sports, which is great for Roger and his wife Mirka. One of their sons really shows a great interest in tennis.”

According to the latest rumors, Federer is in advanced talks with the BBC to comment on Wimbledon 2023. In an interview granted to Express Sport, Alex Corretja reflected on this eventuality: “I don’t know if Roger Federer will comment on matches or if he will dedicate himself to post-match analysis, but it’s not that important.

It will certainly be special to see a legend like Roger in this new guise. We are talking about a unique champion who made the history of tennis. I hope he is used intelligently, it would not make sense to have him comment on matches for eight hours a day.”

Roger Federer and the end of his career

Roger Federer’s career ended in September last year, when he played his last match alongside Rafael Nadal at the Laver Cup. The Swiss received a stunning fan tribute at London’s O2 Arena and images from that evening have toured the world.

Fans hoped to see the Master again on the Wimbledon lawns in 2023 and Roger himself had hoped for it, but the conditions of his right knee left him no other choice. The three operations to which the King underwent did not solve the problem and his brief return in 2021 had revealed a very approximate physical condition.

While Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have broken many records from him over the past two and a half years, no one can ever match the impact Federer has had on the sport. The 20-time Grand Slam champion has contributed more than anyone else to increasing the popularity of tennis, as well as having approached a myriad of sponsors.
