Martina Navratilova announces throat, breast cancer diagnosis

on

Tennis great Martina Navratilova has been diagnosed with throat and breast cancer, according to Stuart Fraser of The Times.

Navratilova, who turned 66 in October, caught the disease in the early stages and remains optimistic that both are “still fixable.”

In her statement, Navratilova – who captured a total of 59 Grand Slam titles across all competitions during her illustrious career – vowed to fight with “all I have got” against this serious diagnosis.

Navratilova, who usually works as a tennis expert and analyst during Grand Slams, sadly won’t be able to go to the upcoming Australian Open.

“This double whammy is serious but still fixable. I’m hoping for a favourable outcome. It’s going to stink for a while but I’ll fight with all I have got,” Navratilova told The Times.

Navratilova beat cancer in the past

At the age of 53, Navratilova was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Fortunately, Navratilova was able to beat the disease after she was first diagnosed with breast cancer.

Just last year, Navratilova was asked about her first cancer diagnosis.

During her appearance on TODAY, Navratilova said she was absolutely shocked by her first cancer diagnosis because she believed that she was living a very healthy life.

“I was so shocked that there was anything going on with my body. But you can be the healthiest person on the planet and still get cancer. You are definitely improving the odds by being healthy, but you’re not totally eliminating the possibility,” Navratilova said.

Now, Navratilova is again battling the same disease that threatened her life 13 years ago.

Navratilova, who was known as one of the biggest competitors during her playing days, will certainly try to tackle the disease with everything she has got.

Navratilova beat the disease once in the past and hopefully the outcome will again be the same and the tennis legend will return to commentating and analyzing tennis matches during Grand Slams.
