Lens attached to Brest / Ligue 1 (J22)

Racing Club de Lens conceded a parity score on the lawn of Brest, this Sunday, on behalf of the 22nd day of Ligue 1 (1-1).

In the long Ligue 1 marathon, certain periods that are a little more hollow resemble turning points. It is in this state of mind that the Lensois have played games in recent weeks. After an exceptional first part of the season, and magnified by a convincing victory against the great PSG on New Year’s Day (3-1), Franck Haise’s team is marking time. She owes it above all to herself, with less inspired executives, and physically a little blunt, like her technical leader and captain Seko Fofana. She owes it to her adversaries, too, who fear her more and more because they have come to know her.

Lens limits breakage

After conceding their first defeat at home last week, against Nice (0-1), the Sang et Or had the opportunity to revolt on the move, against a Brest formation a little more sure of itself since the arrival of Eric Roy on his bench. This match was therefore not obvious for the Lensois, but their success against the Breton club, on their land, a few weeks ago in the Coupe de France, allowed them to approach the meeting with a slight psychological ascendancy.

This didn’t really translate into the game. Well organized, the Finisterians proposed an effective grid to close the spaces and try to hurt against. The first act was pretty locked down. And the Lensois had very few opportunities to get their teeth into. We could just note an attempt by Machado diverted by Bizot, at the end of the first period (37th). A lesser evil for the locals, who had sent a little shiver through the Lens area from the start on a shot from Lees-Melou (7th).

The Brestois were also rewarded as soon as they returned from the locker room. The Douaron exploited a nice cross from Lees-Melou to unblock the situation with a well-adjusted recovery (1-0, 54th). It took until the last half hour to see Lens let go of the horses. And if Bizot delayed the deadline by taking out the big game on a triple chance (71st), the local goalkeeper was less inspired by missing his clearance, allowing Gradit to equalize at the end of the match (1-1, 83rd ). The score did not change, despite a lot of Lensoise pressure in the last minutes. Lens misses the opportunity to come back in front of OM and sees Monaco return to the retro.
