The Spanish Jon Rahm rises, this week, to fourth place in the world golf ranking, overtaking the American Patrick Cantlay who drops to fifth.

The podium remains with the Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy (8.36 average points), the American Scottie Scheffler (8.22) and the Australian Cameron Smith (7.29). Rahm is 7.12 and Cantlay is 7.06.
After Rahm, the Chilean Joaquín Niemann (position 22, 3.21), the Mexican Abraham Ancer (34, 2.41), the Chilean Guillermo Mito Pereira (45, 2.05), the Spaniards Adrián Otaegui (73, 1.49), appear in the top 100. Pablo Larrazábal (77, 1.47) and Adri Arnaus (82, 1.45), the Colombian Sebastián Muñoz (86, 1.41) and the Argentine Emiliano Grillo (89, 1.39).

Rahm played college golf successfully for Arizona State University. He won 11 titles during that time and led the World Amateur Golf Ranking for a total of 60 weeks. After graduating, he became a professional golfer in 2016. Already in the first year of his professional career he confirmed his good results and meanwhile played up to second place in the world rankings. Among other things, Rahm won the Dubai World Championship, the final tournament of the European Tour, in 2017 and 2019. In July 2020, Jon Rahm reached the top of the world golf rankings for the first time with his victory at the Memorial. Rahm was the 24th player and second Spaniard after Severiano Ballesteros to top the world rankings. He lost his top spot two weeks later to Justin Thomas, but regained it after the PGA Championships, only to lose it again two weeks later to Dustin Johnson. After Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth, Rahm became the third player to top the world rankings for both amateurs and professionals.
At Memorial 2021, Rahm, as the defending champion, was in the lead by six strokes after three rounds played, but had to withdraw from the current tournament due to a positive test for SARS-CoV-2. Four weeks later, on his return to the tour, Rahm scored his first major win when he won the 2021 US Open at the Torrey Pines golf course near San Diego, California by a shot over Louis Oosthuizen. Rahm is the first Spaniard to win the US Open. In addition, with the win, Rahm took the lead in the golf world rankings for the third time, which he held until July 2021.
