Johan Bakayoko, three things to know about PSG’s new target

on

Having been unable to recruit Rayan Cherki and Malcom, PSG would have turned to the young Belgian from PSV Eindhoven, Johan Bakayoko.

PSG is active in this period at the end of the winter transfer window in order to strengthen its offensive sector. After successively trying to sign the Lyonnais Rayan Cherki and the Brazilian Malcom, the capital’s club is now considering betting on an almost unknown young Belgian, in the person of Johan Bakayoko.

19 years old, this element corresponds to the profile of a right winger capable of going inside. The recruiting cell observed him several times and eventually convinced themselves that he could be a good complement player. This will not please some observers who asked that PSG bet on its young people rather than systematically looking abroad.

But who is this Johan Bakayoko, of whom we have heard very little so far and whom only the regular followers of the Eredivisie know? What is his service record and what is he worth? We tell you everything below.

A great hope for Belgian football

Johan Bakayoko is part of the new rising generation of Belgian football. He went through all the youth selections of the Red Devils and today has three capes with the Hopes. This attacking midfielder went through the biggest training centers in Belgium (Mechelen, Bruges and Anderlecht) before landing at PSV Eindhoven at the age of 16.

A safe bet for PSV Eindhoven

Bakayoko played his first professional match with PSV at the age of 17, as part of the reserve team (Jong PSV). He accumulated around fifty games with this formation before joining the first team. Launched into the deep end on August 6, 2002, he has not been part of the team since. He now has 14 matches with the team coached by Ruud Van Nistelrooy, including 8 as a starter. In all competitions, he scored 3 goals and offered 1 assist.

He hurt AS Monaco very badly

The decisive pass of which the Belgian prodigy was the author was against AS Monaco last August. In the Champions League play-off, he delivers a caviar for his teammate Luuk De Jong, allowing the latter to smash the qualifying goal for the final preliminary round. That day, and when it was only his 2e match in pro, Bakayoko played with carelessness and efficiency. And that’s exactly what PSG expects of him if they manage to attract him to their squad.
