Before landing on the Stade Rennais bench, Bruno Genesio had spent almost all of his career at OL, where he was trained between 1983 and 1985 before staying there for ten years as a player (1985-1995 ) for 172 games played and 12 goals. Reserve coach (2009-2011), then assistant (2011-2015), he then took over the reins of the first team.

A long period during which he rubbed shoulders with Jean-Michel Aulas, who took over the club in 1987 when Les Gones was on the verge of bankruptcy. The native of Lyon was therefore logically affected by the departure of the 74-year-old businessman, who had nevertheless decided to extend the adventure of 3 years at the head of the club despite the arrival of John Textor: “I was very surprised because I learned about it from a newspaper notificationfirst relates the French technician. It is surprising, almost shocking. For me, he will remain the president of OL. It’s OL.

“We no longer necessarily respect what has been done, the past”

Before going directly to new owner John Textor: “It was he who built everything, he allowed the club to win titlesnotes Genesio. Before he arrived, Lyon had won only Coupes de France. He allowed OL to win seven consecutive titles, Cups and lots of other things. But also to build an exceptional club, almost unique in France for its sports construction, but also all the structures with the stadium and what is around. For me, OL will remain, it is he who will represent the club all the time and many Lyonnais think like me. It is a reflection of our society today, we no longer necessarily respect what has been done, the past. We consume, we throw away. It’s unfortunate, even more so for someone who has brought a lot to Lyon, but also to French football and French sport in general.“The new owner’s ears must have been ringing!
