To compensate for this multitude of absences, Didier Deschamps decided to trust Dayot Upamecano to occupy the post of Presnel Kimpembe in central defence, Theo Hernandez to replace his brother Lucas in the left corridor, Adrien Rabiot and Aurelien Tchouameni in midfield to fill the void left by the pair Paul Pogba – N’Golo Kanté, and finally to Olivier Giroud to compensate for the absence of Ballon d’Or Karim Benzema.
