Memphis Depay wants to shake things up against racism. While Romelu Lukaku was once again the target of nauseating cries on Tuesday evening, during the Italian Cup semi-final first leg between Inter Milan and Juventus (1-1), the Dutch international rose to the niche to call for unity on its social networks.
In a publication posted on Instagram this Friday, the former Lyonnais called on athletes to mobilize against racism. Several stars such as Kylian Mbappé, Neymar, Paul Pogba, Vinicius Junior or even Marcus Rashford have been mentioned by the 29-year-old player to fight this scourge. “Now is the time for all athletes to start connecting with each other so that this disease can be managed in the right way. Once we come together, we can really make a difference.”, he wrote. Very committed to this fight, Memphis Depay had already called on the Dutch authorities to act in 2019, after a player was targeted by racist insults during an Eredivise meeting between Den Bosch and Excelsior Rotterdam.
