In the last few hours, the former Spanish tennis player Alex Corretja has also talked about Djokovic’s performance and his umpteenth extraordinary result. Corretja defended the Serbian champion from the latest attacks, and he declared his opinion to the interview with Cadena Ser.

He told: “I look at how Nole celebrated the victory and how he embraced his family, especially his brother and his mother. When I saw that hug I understood that Nole feels that all this work of him is not in vain. Djokovic conveys pure passion for everything he does. I think him on several occasions he has been misunderstood but he has a very big soul. He always held all of his ideals that way, never wanted to deceive and was clear and sincere about his intentions.”

The former tennis player then continued: “I think Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal respect each other but I don’t see them discussing and going to dinner together. Federer and Nadal had a great rivalry but they almost turned it into a friendship, for Nole and Rafa it’s different, they have traveled opposite paths in terms of ideals and sharing with their fans”.

Corretja then concluded: “They both have a very deep vision of the sport, they have given everything and are part of one of the greatest rivalries in the history of sport. I don’t know if it is that easy to be great friends with a person who you face and where you put at stake many things.”

What happened in Melbourne

Novak Djokovic, after a very complicated year, won the Australian Open 2023, the tenth tournament here in Australia and the twenty-second Grand Slam of his extraordinary career.

Despite this, Nole caused a lot of discussion for what happened off the court more than for his results. The tennis player was criticized for his father Srdjan’s inappropriate celebrations together with Russian fans (who had war-related ornaments). Not only: many have spoken of exaggeration regarding his injury with Craig Tiley himself who spoke at the end of the tournament of a tear of even 3 centimeters.
