Chris Evert previews Emma Raducanu-Bianca Andreescu Miami matchup

on

Chris Evert is extremely excited about the Emma Raducanu and Bianca Andreescu matchup as the American tennis legend expects to see “fireworks” in Miami.

Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, is set to meet 2019 US Open champion Andreescu in the Miami Open first round.

“When I saw that line-up and that Emma had to play Andreescu, I was like, ‘oh, that’s going to be fireworks’. These are two players that have tremendous potential. They have won majors, are playing in the first round, are trying to get their game back – trying to get there not only physically, but trying to get that confidence, that champion mentality back and trying to get their game to where they had it when they won majors. It’s great for the spectators. It’s a big draw. It’s going to be an exciting match. I know I’ll be there to watch it, but it’s a shame for them because they need some easier draws to get matches to regain that confidence. I think this says a lot about women’s tennis, how deep the fields are and how many really good players there are out there,” Evert told Eurosport.

Raducanu and Andreescu set to meet for the second time

Last year, Raducanu and Andreescu met for the first time in Rome.

Back then, Andreescu was up by a set and had a 2-1 lead in the second set when Raducanu was forced to retire the match.

At this past Indian Wells edition, both Raducanu and Andreescu did solid.

Raducanu was able to win her first three matches, before losing to world No 1 Iga Swiatek in the round-of-16.

On the other side, Andreescu had a first-round bye in Indian Wells before beating Peyton Stearns in the second round.

In the third round, Andreescu’s run came to an end following a defeat to Swiatek.

Now, Raducanu and Andreescu are set to highlight the first-round action in Miami.
