The final in Merida
Camila’s victory in the final in Merida was a tougher match than the double 6-0 inflicted on Stephens, but on the same level as a semi-final won with difficulty. A victory that also allows her to climb the ranking: she returns to the top 50, she is new number 46 in the world, becoming the second Italian tennis player, behind Martina Trevisan.

Fourth career title for Camila Giorgi. The first two of her career are those that currently qualify as WTA 250 tournaments: ‘s-Hertogenbosch in 2015, won against Belinda Bencic. Then Linz in 2018, won against Ekaterina Aleksandrova. First on grass, second on hard.
The second surface will be the one on which the number two in Italy has achieved the greatest successes. In August 2021 she triumphed in Montreal, in the WTA 1000 Canadian Open, beating Slam finalist Karolina Pliskova in straight sets.
After a year and a half, therefore, Giorgi returns to conquer a tournament. Still on hard, she will continue her season, like that of the rest of the WTA Tour. It’s up to the second 1000 tournament of the season, namely Indian Wells, where the men’s and women’s Tours will be the protagonists of the first US stage of the season, before the return of the US Open.
