Wimbledon issue over the months had sparked a lot of controversy, and for a long time, due to the organization’s decision to ban Russian and Belarusian tennis players from being able to participate in the most important event on grass.
ATP for this reason had subsequently decided not to give away any points for the London Grand Slam. Among other things, the tennis federation would have threatened Wimbledon to exclude her from the calendar if she had maintained the veto on Russian and Belarusian players and we must now understand what will happen between now and the next few months.
Aryna Sabalenka opened up about this topic during the World Tennis League she is playing in Dubai. She explained: “I don’t think I have any control over this situation. I’m waiting for the decision and whatever happens, it happens. If they want to ban us from being there for another year that’s fine, whatever happens I’ll enjoy myself at home in Miami, spend some time with my family and I’ll have another pre-season. Whatever they decide, it’s their decision. I’m not interested in Wimbledon.”
Sabalenka is not interested in what will happen in London
For this reason she doesn’t even want to shoot herself in the foot and, in case, she can’t return to Wimbledon again this year, a tournament that saw her reach the semi-finals in 2021, or her last participation.
In her career Sabalenka won 11 singles trophies and two doubles slams (US Open and Australian Open with Mertens).
In this 2022 she failed to win any trophies even though she reached three finals including the WTA Finals in Fort Worth. Now the Belarusian is playing in the World Tennis League in Dubai which could be useful for understanding at what point her physical condition is in view of the 2023 tennis season which she is increasingly upon us.
