Andy Murray: Not perfect yet but the signs are good

on

Andy Murray was thrilled about his win over Jack Draper as he feels “the signs are good” ahead of the 2023 season.

Murray didn’t accomplish his goals in 2022 as he wasn’t really happy with the results he had this past season.

On Wednesday, Murray defeated Draper 6-2 1-6 12-10 at The Battle of the Brits.

Draper had a 6-3 lead in the match tie-break before Murray stormed back to clinch a tight three-set win.

“Will to win, fighting for every point, chasing every ball down, came up with some part-luck, part-skill shots at the end, a few of them came off. Unbelievable ending, I’ve not played many tie-breaks like that before. I wish [I could go on for ever in tennis], unfortunately that’s not going to happen. I have put in a lot of hard work, it’s the hardest I’ve worked in a long time these last couple of months. I need to keep going because it’s not perfect yet, but the signs are good,” Murray said after the match.

Murray praises Draper

Draper, 21, is one of the most promising and talented young players on the Tour.

Murray feels Draper has the potential to be a star player for a long time.

“I think he has the potential to be right up at the top of the game for a really, really long time. He loves his tennis, he works extremely hard and there are lots of positive things in his future. I’m looking forward to seeing what he does but it’s very exciting for tennis in this country,” Murray said of Draper.

After The Battle of the Brits, Murray will fly to Australia for the Adelaide International.

After making his debut at the Adelaide International, Murray will go to Melbourne for the Australian Open.

It remains to be seen how will Murray do at the start of the season.
