Andrey Rublev: The pressure is always there but you decide what to do with it

Andrey Rublev says pressure is a common part of every career but learning how to handle it properly is the key.

Rublev, ranked at No 7 in the world, has been one of the best players in the game over the last couple of years.

“The pressure is always there but it depends on you, if you feel that there is a lot of pressure, then there is a lot of pressure, but it depends on you. It’s not about feeling pressure or not, it depends on what you do with it because everyone feels pressure, but it depends on you and what you do,” Rublev told ESTO.

Rublev on being one of the best Russian tennis players

This Monday, Daniil Medvedev returned to No 5 in the world.

Following the latest changes on the ATP rankings, Rublev became the second highest-ranked Russian male tennis player.

“I don’t feel responsible for being one of the best Russian tennis players and my goal is simple, to be better in my tennis, if I’m good in my tennis then everything is simply getting better in my results,” Rublev explained.

Rublev, who is 25 years old, is a well-established player on the Tour but he has yet to win a Masters or a Grand Slam title.

At the Grand Slam level, Rublev has had several deep runs but he just hasn’t managed to figure out how to go all the way.

At this year’s Australian Open, Rublev reached the quarterfinal before losing to Novak Djokovic.

With the loss to Djokovic, Rublev’s record in Grand Slam quarterfinals went to 0-7.

In his interviews, Rublev has been very open as he admitted several times that he needs to improve his mental game in order to start making really big Grand Slam results.

It remains to be seen if Rublev can make his big Grand Slam breakthrough in the rest of 2023.
