Match #1. Jay Lethal w/ Sonjay Dutt & Satnam Singh vs. Orange Cassidy

Lethal rips up someone’s sign that says “This is awesome” on the way to the ring. Taz: “Ya know, I don’t blame him.” Shoulder block by Orange and a headlock to start. Lethal reverses with a shoulder block of his own as both men trade deep arm drags. Hands in pockets for Orange and Lethal is hot. Lethal looks for the Lethal Injection early but Orange flips over him and hits a dropkick to the back. Lethal heads to the outside as Orange follows with a suicide dive…. with his hands still in his pockets. Orange “kicks” Lethal up the ramp but here’s Satnam Singh, who’s been banned from ringside, but I guess it’s okay since he’s on the ramp. Here comes Best Friends with the classic “guy on your shoulders wearing a trench coat” spot. Orange tosses Lethal back in the ring and comes off the top with a diving cross body. Cassidy looks for his DDT but Lethal reverses into a dragon screw that sends Orange to the mat in pain. Lethal drags Orange to the outside and puts Orange’s ankle behind the stairs and dropkicks it. Lethal in control back in the ring with a shin breaker. Make that two. Now a third. Lethal focuses the attack on the leg with stomps and draping Orange’s leg across the bottom rope before coming down on it, a la his hero, Ric Flair. Speaking of Flair, Lethal looks for the figure four but Orange fights out. Dropkick to the knee by Lethal. Lethal dumps Orange to the outside but Orange runs up to the top rope, gets crotched, and Lethal hits an avalanche dragon screw! Figure four locked in now by Lethal. Orange quickly makes it to the ropes. Lethal looks to suplex Orange inside from the apron but Orange counters into a Stundog Millionaire! Orange tries to reverse roll into the around the world DDT, but Lethal counters into the Lethal Combination. Two count! Lethal heads up to the top for the Savage Elbow but Orange rolls across to the ring. Lethal follows but Orange drags him into the middle turnbuckle face-first. Orange goes up top but Lethal catches him again. Lethal looks for another dragon screw, but Orange fights Lethal off the top rope. Diving DDT from the top by Orange! Around the world DDT by Orange! One, two, no! Orange Punch attempt but Orange’s knee buckles! Lethal points and laughs and looks for a piledriver but Orange counters… Beach Break! Two count! Orange Punch attempt again but Lethal catches him with a chop block! Figure four attempt but Orange counters into a cradle for two. Another Orange Punch attempt but Lethal ducks and super kicks the knee! Lethal Injection!

Winner: Jay Lethal

Rating: ***3/4. This match RULED so hard. Everyone knows how good Orange Cassidy is, but Jay Lethal is one of the best pure professional wrestlers in the world today. Fantastic old school, professional wrestling match with a great story, and Lethal getting the win via sticking to his game plan and being the veteran that he is.

Sonjay Dutt is here now with Satnam Singh and they’re running down Orange Cassidy. Dutt says Orange has jaundice. Lethal says he’s going to put the figure four on Orange Cassidy again, and his new buddy Wardlow better come out and save him.

Enter Best Friends.

Enter Wardlow.

Lethal and crew bail, but Wardlow lays down the AEW TNT title and invites them back in the ring. Dutt says Lethal is blown up right now, but let’s put the belt on the line at Battle of the Belts 3 on Saturday. Wardlow obliges.

Adam Cole is back… bay bay! Not just Adam Cole, but Kyle O’Reilly, Bobby Fish, and the Young Bucks. The entire Undisputed Elite are here! Story time with Adam Cole, bay bay! Cole feels great to be back in the ring with his friends. Unfortunately, Adam Cole is not medically cleared to return, but he’s taken a lot of time to process some things. Cole wants to figure out what he can fix as a leader. Chemistry and talent make a great faction. Most importantly, it’s about loyalty. Fighting alongside your brothers, no matter what. Adam Cole came to AEW because of the Young Bucks. Cole has traveled for a decade with Bob and Kyle. Loyalty is everything. Which brings Cole, to this trios tournament. Cole wants nothing more than the Undisputed Elite to win the trios titles, and since Cole isn’t cleared, Kyle isn’t cleared, and they didn’t choose Bob… they’re not allowed to compete in the tournament. Actually, Cole didn’t choose his words right, the Bucks won’t be ABLE to compete.

Bob and Kyle attack the Bucks! Bob sets up a chair around Matt’s ankle, here’s Hangman! Hangman has a pipe and clears the ring! Hangman helps Matt up, as both men make eye contact, and Hangman walks out. Hung Bucks reunion, maybe?

Jon Moxley is here and lets us know he doesn’t care who win, because whoever it is, he won’t respect them when they step across the ring from him.

Christian is in the back with Tony Schiavone, and Christian is appalled that Jungle Boy would bring up his personal life. In comes a speeding BMW SUV and it’s Jungle Boy! Jungle Boy did it for the Rock.

Match #2. Dr. Britt Baker DMD & Jamie Hayter vs. ThunderStorm (Thunder Rosa & Toni Storm)

Commentary tells us they’re surprised how little chemistry Baker & Hayter have as a team. ANGLE ALERT. All four women brawl to start. Baker looks for Lockjaw on Rosa early but Rosa rolls through and hits a back suplex. Hayter is tagged in and eats a dropkick and clothesline for her troubles. Dropkick to the back followed by a dropkick to the teeth by Rosa. Storm in now and putting the boots to Hayter in the corner. Running European uppercuts by ThunderStorm and a double suplex to Hayter. Storm is here with a diving swinging DDT from the top rope! Hayter with a uranage back breaker to Storm! All four women are down. Double German suplexes by ThunderStorm. Double running hip attacks by ThunderStorm! FOREVER RUNNING HIP ATTACKS BY STORM! Must have been five or six in a row. Baker pulls Rosa into the path of Storm as Hayter emerges with a Rainmaker! One, two, three!

Winners: Britt Baker D.M.D. & Jamie Hayter

Rating: ***1/2. Just a heck of a match here. ThunderStorm have worked really well as a team and Baker and Hayter can do no wrong at this point. The story was Hayter and Baker are great singles wrestlers, but can’t seem to win as a team, until now. The seeds are planted for the eventual ThunderStorm break up, so this should be a fun ride.

Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti are here via video package, talking about their upcoming wedding but… Eddie Kingston interrupts and he doesn’t care about them. Or their wedding. Tony sent Eddie the contract for All Out, it’s up to you Sammy.

Taz is panned to, and he says he wishes all of the member of Team Taz the best in their future endeavors, but Team Taz is over. Enter the Powerhouse.

Match #3. Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Ren Jones

Poor Ren. Avalanche in the corner by Hobbs. Oklahoma Stampede. Clothesline. Knee on chest. /fin

Winner: Powerhouse Hobbs

Rating: NR.

Ricky Starks music hits and here he comes! Starks is sprinting and the crowd is on FIRE! Starks lands a few right hands but the referee gets in the way and that allows Hobbs to plant Starks with a spinebuster.

Darby Allin is here tattooing “Coffin Drops on Brody King” on his hand, as we get the announcement there will be a coffin match between the two at Quake at the Lake next week.

Jim Ross has joined us for hour two.

Match #4. Christian Cage vs. Matt Hardy

Double leg by Matt to start who beats down Christian in the corner. Christian goes up top as Matt pushes him off and he lands hard on the apron and the outside. Matt grabs Christian legs and pulls him into a sit out powerbomb for a two count. Back in the ring, neckbreaker by Christian gets a two count. Hardy tries to fight back as Christian heads up top and Matt cuts him off. Superplex by Matt gets a very long two. Back body drop and ten punches in the corner by Matt. Hardy drops an elbow to the back of Christian’s head from the middle rope. Matt looks for the Twist of Fate but Christian avoids and hits a pendulum kick in the corner. Christian goes up top but Matt catches him again and back body drops him from the top. Elbow drop by Matt from the middle rope gets a two count. Christian looks for the Killswitch but Matt tosses him to the outside. Christian drops Matt neck first and goes up top and delivers a flying headbutt. Two count. Christian steps on Hardy on the middle rope but Matt catches Christian coming in… Side Effect! Two count. Christian rolls outside again as Matt follows. Matt drops Christian with a Side Effect on the apron! Matt sees the table on the outside and sets it up at ringside. Matt lays Christian on the table and Matt gets a running start off the apron and dives through with an elbow drop… but Christian moves! Matt crashes through the table. Christian rolls Matt back inside… Killswitch! That gets it done.

Winner: Christian Cage

Rating: **3/4. Perfectly acceptable, albeit predictable, pro wrestling match.

Christian then grabs a pair of chairs from under the ring and is looking for the One Man Conchairto. Jungle Boy might have been ejected from the building… but Luchasaurus is still here! DinoMan walks down to ringside as Jungle Boy jumps Christian from behind wearing a “Christian is a Pussy” shirt. Jungle Boy whiffs on a chair shot as Christian retreats through the crowd.

Daniel Garcis is with Tony Schiavone and he calls himself the “Dragon Slayer.” Is that as cool as “Red Death”? I don’t think so, but it’s still pretty cool.

Highlight video of Pac defending the All Atlantic Title against Conor Mills at Rev Pro.

Ethan Page is here and he wants to know why? Why is Ethan Page not on TV every single week? Why doesn’t Ethan Page have an action figure? Ethan Page deserves better! Here’s Big Stoke! Page says the fans are leaving money on the table. Stokely takes the mic and asks Page what the hell he is doing? Stokely gives Page his card, and heads to the back.

Anna Jay, Matt Menard, and Angelo Parker are here with Tony Schiavone. Matt Menard’s nipples get hard thinking about Jericho becoming Le Champion again. Anna JAS chokes out a cameraman. And here we are.

Match #5. Dumpster Match: The Acclaimed vs. The Ass Boys

In order to win the match, you’ve got to put both members of the other team in the dumpster and close it. The Acclaimed attack the Ass Boys from behind with garbage cans and Max freestyles about Vince McMahon retiring and Joe Biden’s covid test. Ass Boys attack with some trash can lids and Bowens double suplexes the Ass Boys on the outside. Austin and Bowens start but it’s no holds barred so it doesn’t really matter. The dumpster is at ringside. Colten drops Bowens with a right hand who lands on the dumpster rim, as Austin slams the lid on his back half a dozen times. Ass Boys now powerbomb Bowens into the dumpster and back drop Caster in, but don’t get the lid closed. Acclaimed emerge with cookie sheets and lay out the Ass Boys. Bowens drops Austin with a trash can lid but Colten is in and drops Bowens with some right hands. Bowens is on the receiving end of some heavy strikes as Max gets picked apart on the floor. Bowens gets dumped again but Colten can’t get the lid closed. Now Bowens and Austin are standing on top of the dumpster and Austin tosses Bowens off the dumpster onto a bed of trash cans. Caster gets thrown into the dumpster as the Ass Boys set up a table on the entrance way. Suplex by Colten to Caster on the steel grate. Colten hits the Colt 45 to Bowens on the ramp! Sick thud there. Austin is on the top of the entrance tunnel but Bowens is able to get free, and Caster has followed Austin up! Caster tosses Austin off and into the dumpster! Bowens places Colten on the table… Mic Drop by Caster! Colten is tossed in the dumpster. Lid is closed!

Winners: The Acclaimed

Rating: **1/2. This was plunder, comedy, and gimmicks. Which is what it was supposed to be. It wasn’t very pretty, but it was entertaining for what it was.

After the match, the Acclaimed toss dumpster off the stage with the Ass Boys inside!

Match #6. Winner Faces Jon Moxley for Interim AEW World Heavyweight Title: Chris Jericho vs. Wheeler Yuta

William Regal has joined the commentary table. Jericho is out with the rest of the JAS, but Claudio has now joined Yuta and the odds are even. Jericho slaps Yuta and Yuta flicks Jericho in the broken nose. Yuta beats on Jericho in the corner as Jericho takes a powder to the outside. Yuta follows and beats on Jericho on the outside. Crowd is firmly behind Yuta here. Menard goes to grab Floyd but ref Aubrey sees it and throws out the JAS! Yuta heads up top early but Jericho crotches him and follows up with a back suplex. Senton by Jericho before hitting the double biceps. Jericho puts Yuta on the top rope but gets shrugged off. Yuta attempts an axe handle from the top but Jericho catches him with a dropkick to the face. It should be noted that the entire crowd has been standing for this whole match. Manhattan drop by Yuta catches Jericho coming in, following up with an enziguiri. Diving clothesline in the corner by Yuta and a flying forearm of the top rope get a two count. Mid-air collision as both men try for a cross body. Both men exchange palm strikes in the center, but Yuta gets a waist lock and hits a German suplex. Make that two. Make that three. Make that four. Make that five, with a bridge! One, two, no! Yuta holds on and looks for another German but Jericho rolls through and locks in the Walls of Jericho. Side note, Taz and Regal explaining the ways in which Yuta can escape the Walls of Jericho is phenomenal and brings a sense of reality to the situation. Yuta gets to the ropes! Yuta bumps Jericho to the outside and hits a suicide dive. Another suicide dive. Yuta looking for a third tope and nails it. Yuta rushes Jericho inside the ring and hits a cross body from the top for a two count. Jericho ducks a lariat and hits a double underhook into a back breaker. VINTAGE JERICHO. Clothesline from Jericho. Lionsault by Jericho but Yuta gets his knees up! Yuta up top but Jericho catches him coming down with a Code Breaker! Two count! Hammer & Anvil elbows by Jericho but Yuta grabs the broken nose! Drop toe hold by Yuta looking for the Regal Stretch! Jericho reaches for Floyd but Aubrey kicks it away. Low blow by Jericho with Aubrey’s back turned! Judas Effect by Jericho but Yuta ducks! Seatbelt by Yuta! One, two, NO! Jericho rolls through into the LIONTAMER! HIGH ANGLE BOSTON CRAB! STOMPS TO THE BACK OF YUTA’S HEAD! YUTA TAPS!

Winner: Chris Jericho

Rating: ***1/4. This match seemed like it was rushed a bit due to time constrains, but the closing stretch was phenomenal. Given more time, I think we could have been on our way to something special. That said, Jericho pulling out the Liontamer and the Lionsault after Moxley said he wanted the Lionheart is phenomenal storytelling. Good stuff here, and Yuta didn’t lose anything in a loss to a legend. Also, it wasn’t a Pure Rules match, so no harm, no foul.

Jericho refuses to let go of the hold but… WILD THING! Moxley hits the ring and he doesn’t look happy. Jericho holds on until the last second and Moxley is heated. A week from today, Moxley vs. Jericho 2 for the Interim AEW World Heavyweight title! Jericho grabs the mic and says if you want Lionheart next week, you’ve got it.

Final Thoughts: Really even mix of storytelling and pro wrestling this week. The Hung Bucks reunion, Unsiputed Elite return, Jericho vs. Moxley build, and Christian/Jungle Boy stories all got told and we got some good advancement. Wrestling-wise, Lethal vs. Cassidy was an absolute blast and the ThunderStorm/Baker & Hayter match was a darn good one. Thumbs up from me this week. 8/10.
