WWE Reportedly Had Big Plans for Hulk Hogan’s In-Ring Return

on

WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan reportedly had plans to make his in-ring return at WrestleMania 36 earlier this year.

It was recently reported by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE had talks with The Hulkster for a WrestleMania appearance, before the show was drastically changed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The idea is that Hogan was going to be in town because the nWo was being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as a group with Hogan, Sean Waltman, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash.

In an update, Paul Davis of WrestlingNews reports that there was a pitch made to have Hogan work the 7th Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. The talks with Hogan fell through for some reason but even if they had agreed on terms, the Battle Royal was nixed due to the pandemic-related changes.

It was noted that the pitch included having Hogan win the match. The idea was that Hogan would’ve avoided any bumps, eliminated one or two competitors at the end of the match, and then do the big post-match celebration with his music for the feel-good moment. A WWE source said it would’ve been “perfect because he lives in the Tampa area.”

The idea for Hogan to win the match was reportedly still on the table as late as February, and WWE Chairman Vince McMahon did not shoot it down when it was pitched to him.

The talks between Hogan and WWE reportedly fell through because both sides couldn’t agree on financial terms.
