WTA Dubai: Iga Swiatek beats Coco Gauff to reach the final, the highlights

on

Iga Swiatek made it through the semifinals of the WTA 1000 in Dubai with some difficulty only in the first set, beating the young US star Coco Gauff in straight sets.

After the initial 6-4, the world’s super number one takes total control of the matter and she got the success on 6-4 6-2. Eighth consecutive success and second consecutive final after the one in Doha. No challenge in the final with Jessica Pegula, beaten in three sets by a newfound Barbora Krejcikova, who will face the Polish in the final.

Below the highlights of the match between Swiatek and Gauff:

The men’s tournaments of the week

After beating Fabio Fognini, Carlos Alcaraz makes no particular changes to his status at the ATP tournament in Rio, in the match against Dusan Lajovic. Even if in the second set he needs a tie break, which he dominates without leaving any points in the way, to at least take on the challenge with Nicolas Jarry, who gets rid of Sebastian Baez in two sets.

Competing for a place in the final on the opposite side of the board will be Cameron Norrie and Zapata Miralles. In the rematch of the quarter-final played in Rotterdam, Daniil Medvedev keeps the result unchanged and with a double 6-4 he reaches the second consecutive final in the major circuit after last week’s.

Nothing doing for Felix Auger Aliassime. He will find an eternal Andy Murray, who against Jiri Lehecka wins the first set 6-0 and then finds himself forced to the third set tie break to get the fifth final of his career in Qatar.

Not without recovering three fifteen of a disadvantage in the tenth game and canceling a total of five match points. In Doha alone, the Briton spent 10 hours and 7 minutes on the court, practically double that of the Russian tennis player.

After benefiting from Jannik Sinner’s forfeit, Arthur Fils beats Stan Wawrinka in Marseille. In the semifinal the derby with Benjamin Bonzi. Third set tie break for Hubert Hurkacz in the match against Mikael Ymer, practically identical situation for Alexandr Bublik forced to cancel, among other things, three match points from Grigor Dimitrov.

For the Kazakh tennis player, who had put an end to a series of ten consecutive defeats on the Tour in Marseille, this is the first semi-final since last year’s Metz tournament.
