What did Emma Raducanu say after her last match against Iga Swiatek?

Emma Raducanu described Iga Swiatek’s level as “ruthless” following their Indian Wells match and also said she would become “one of the best athletes” on the WTA Tour.

In mid-March, Raducanu clinched three Indian Wells wins before Swiatek handed the Briton a 6-3 6-1 loss in the round-of-16.

This week at the Madrid Open, we could see another Raducanu-Swiatek match.

In the Madrid first round, Raducanu plays against a qualifier while top-seeded Swiatek has a first-round bye.

If Raducanu wins her first-round match, we would see a Raducanu-Swiatek match at Caja Magica.

What did Raducanu say after her last match against Swiatek?

“I think that Iga played a very good level and showed why she is No. 1 in the world. She was very ruthless with the way that she played. I think I was able to stay competitive for the beginning of the match, but ultimately she ground me down, and by the end of it, I was just taking way too long to recover from one rally. Overall, I feel like physically she is much further ahead than I am at this moment,” Raducanu said

Even though Raducanu was easily beaten by Swiatek in the Indian Wells round-of-16, the Briton was happy that she was able to clinch some notable wins before losing to the Pole.

“I can take a positive week. I think I had a few good wins earlier against some great opponents. I did two good training weeks in London. They paid off to an extent, but ultimately, two weeks of training isn’t going to cut it against the world No. 1 right now. I’m looking forward to playing her after I’ve got more time under my belt,” Raducanu said.

“Physically, I feel like that’s going to be one of my biggest assets. I think that I’m going to be one of the best athletes on the tour, and that’s going to be a big part of my game,” Raducanu claimed.

Overall, Swiatek owns a 2-0 head-to-head against Raducanu as the Pole also won their first meeting at 2022 Stuttgart.

Clay is definitely Swiatek’s better surface as it will be interesting to see if Raducanu would be able to match up to the Pole if they met in Madrid.
