Villarreal comes out of it at the end of the suspense against Girona

on

Engaged in the race for the Champions League, Villarreal received the Catalans from Girona this Sunday (2:00 p.m.), as part of the 18th day of La Liga. On a slippery slope after the draw conceded against Celta Vigo (1-1), then the elimination in the round of 16 of the King’s Cup against Real Madrid this Thursday (2-3), the Yellow Submarine managed to turn the tide in added time, thanks to a penalty from Dani Parejo (1-0).

If they were not far from opening the scoring through Alex Baena in the 11th minute of play, Quique Setién’s players saw success flee them throughout the game, the fault of a great Paulo Gazzaniga. Half an hour into the game, the former Manchester City goalkeeper made a huge save in front of Aïssa Mandi (33rd), before repeating an overpowered attempt by Gerard Moreno (74th). After the expulsion of Santiago Bueno (79th), the Yellow Submarine managed to obtain two penalties in added time, in a rather improbable context. Gerard Moreno saw his being stopped by Paulo Gazzaniga (90 + 4th), but Dani Parejo, he did not tremble by offering victory to his team at the end of the suspense (90 + 10th). A result that does Villarreal’s business since the residents of the Estadio de la Cerámica catch up with Atlético de Madrid in the standings (5th with 31 points). Girona, for its part, is floundering in the soft underbelly with an 11th place.
