Venus Williams addresses her comeback plans

Venus Williams, 42, reveals she is hoping to “soon return” to action.

Williams, a seven-time Grand Slam champion, suffered a hamstring injury during her Auckland round-of-16 match against Zhu Lin. 

On Instagram, Williams held a Q&A session with her fans.

“When we will see you on the Tour again, so miss seeing you play,” a fan asked Williams.

Williams responded: “Hopefully soon my friend. Working my hardest to get back.”

Williams started her season in time but then suffered a setback

After playing just four singles tournaments in 2022, Williams kicked off her 2023 season in the first week of the 2023 season.

Williams actually made a positive start to her 2023 season, beating Katie Volynets in the Auckland first round to end her six-match losing streak in singles.

But then, Williams suffered a hamstring injury during a three-set defeat to Lin in her next match. 

Williams, who was handed a main draw wildcard into the Australian Open, had to return the wildcard to Tennis Australia. 

A few weeks later, Williams revealed that really happened in Auckland. 

“But I’ve hurt my hamstring enough to know that there’s nothing to be done once you hurt it, like, either you keep playing or don’t, but there’s nothing you can do. I did not call the trainer. I think I just panicked and threw up on myself the rest of the match, like, I just had shots that I could hit winners. I unfortunately walked off the court not a winner of that match and you know, about a seven or eight-hour encounter which really were the craziest circumstances I played in in my long, long, long, long career. I knew that it was going to be a bad injury. That’s the point when I withdrew from the Australian Open. I had a wildcard and it was so awesome, but it wasn’t for me and I wanted someone else to have that opportunity because I knew I wouldn’t have a chance to play.
