Tin-Tin beaten in WTT Contender singles

on

It wasn’t to be for Tin-Tin Ho today as she missed out on a last-16 qualifier women’s singles place of the WTT Contender in Jordan, later losing again in the first round of the women’s doubles with Welsh partner, Charlotte Carey.

Ho’s singles opponent, Zhu Chengzhu of Hong Kong, with her world ranking of 92 against Tin-Tin’s 156, proved to be too strong, although the English player fought to the end, with the final score 1-3 (8-11, 7-11, 11-9, 10-12).

In the women’s doubles, the British pair were unable to emulate their semi-final success of the feeder event, going down 1-3 (5-11, 11-6, 9-11, 7-11) against Hungarians Helga Dari and Leonie Hartbrich.

Carey had won earlier in the day in the women’s singles, beating Sibel Altinkaya of Turkey, earning herself a place in the last 16 of the qualifiers.

Still chances for Tin-Tin Ho in the mixed doubles. Partnered with Liam Pitchford, they face Dora Madarasz and Nandor Ecseki of Hungary in the first round (no qualifying event) to be played on Thursday 9th February.

Also Thursday, Pitchford (6th seed) goes straight into the main draw of the men’s singles, his opponent yet to be determined.
