It is the dream of many of us: to play a game with the world number 1. This is what Nicolas Lemaitre was able to experience, thanks to a game designed by Rory McIlroy’s equipment manufacturer.

It was the purchase of a driver by one of his customers, Guillaume Blanchoz from Golf de Merignies, in his NL Golf store in September that turned the dream into reality.

Rory McIlroy, story

Leaving for Miami in mid-December, they had the pleasure of meeting the Northern Irish on a course for a few unforgettable hours. Their beautiful adventure then led them to Tiger Woods’ restaurant in Jupiter.

This real fairy tale is told in the newspaper La Voix du Nord.

Rory McIlroy, born May 4, 1989 in Holywood (Northern Ireland), is a professional golfer from Northern Ireland. Young, he quickly stood out for his talents in golf, first amateur where he won the Junior Ryder Cup in 2004, played the Walker Cup in 2007, represented Ireland at the Eisenhower Trophy in 2006 and won five tournaments including the European Amateur Championship in 2006 (as well as the European Amateur Team Championship in 2007), he became a professional in September 2007 at the age of 18.

He won his first victory on the European PGA Tour at the Dubai Desert Classic in February 2009 and his first victory on the American circuit the following year at the Quail Hollow Championship. After two third places in major tournaments, in 2009 at the PGA Championship and in 2010 at the Masters, he won his first Grand Slam title at the 2011 edition of the American Open.

Rory McIlroy became No. 1 in the world for the first time on March 4, 2012 at the age of 22, 43 days after winning the Honda Classic, a PGA Tour tournament in Palm Beach Gardens. On August 12, 2012, he became the first Northern Irishman in history to win the PGA Championship. He is also the first Briton to claim this victory since Tommy Armor in 1930.

In 2014, he won his third major tournament by winning the British Open, followed by a fourth by winning a second PGA Championship. In the same year, he won the Ryder Cup for the second time in a row playing with the European team against the United States.

In 2019, following a good season in the United States, including a victory at the FedEx Cup1, the Northern Irish golfer was voted player of the year on the PGA circuit.
