The TCU men’s tennis team, following its first loss of the season Wednesday, returned to competing at a very high level, sweeping USC in Fort Worth.

Now, TCU will open Big 12 play Friday, March 31 at home on the purple courts of Batzen Varsity against the Oklahoma Sooners.

The Horned Frogs, after their midweek loss to No. 3 Texas as TCU, transitioned to a dominant 7-0 on purple courts for a fifth win over a top-10 opponent.

After trailing in the previous two games, TCU managed the doubles point against the Trojans, overcoming two quick sets to jump out to a 1-0 lead in the match. Doubles Court 1 featured a top-25 showdown as the ITA #21 duo of USC’s Stefan Dostanic and Bradley Frye battled TCU’s #13 Luc Fomba and Jake Fearnley; with the duo of the Frogs winning the set 6-4. Sander Jong and Jack Pinnington grabbed the doubles point with a 6-4 win on 3-court.

TCU continued to assert its dominance in singles, opening with a #21 Jake Fearnley cruise victory over the preseason’s #1 singles (currently ranked #32) Dostanic 6-4, 6-0. The rout continued in the other ranked versus ranked showdown as No. 71 Sebastian Gorzny defeated No. 124 Frye 6-3, 6-2 to remain undefeated in singles at 11-0, ten of which came in two sets for freshman. The deciding match point was earned from field 4 as No. 43 Sander Jong managed USC’s Lodewijk Weststrate 6-4, 6-1 to secure the victory for the Frogs.

The Frogs & Trojans opted to stake ongoing matches rather than close out the contest once it was already won at 4-0, with any match making it to the third set to go to the ten-point super tiebreak instead. In these bonus shutouts, Pedro Vives was next to emerge victorious as he rebounded from an 0-6 first set to take the second set 6-4 and win the super tiebreaker 10-5.

Luc Fomba got his 100th career singles win in a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 takedown of Wotjek Marek at court 3. The complete victory was achieved at court 2 when JPJ went the distance with the No. 26 Peter Makk coming off with a hard fought victory, 5-7, 7-5 and 10-8 in the final set of playoffs.
