Roland Garros: Carlos Alcaraz beats Denis Shapovalov, the Highlights

on

The Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz freed himself without worries with the score of 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 of a Denis Shapovalov too foul to be true, at the Roland Garros 2023.

The Canadian’s first ring came only at the beginning of the second set, at the end of a partial in which he collected only one game, when Alcaraz made an unusual mistake with his forehand and delivered the break. Shapovalov did not take advantage of his opponent’s decline in performance and from 4-1 he lost five games in a row.

The 24-year-old showed up in the third set with three double faults. Gift that Alcaraz accepted in good taste and guarded with authority until the end.

Another super performance and another important show of strength by Lorenzo Musetti at the Roland Garros, who will face Alcaraz in the second week in Paris. After crushing Alexander Shevchenko in the second round, the Italian talent enjoyed another memorable day in Paris and put down a 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 finish to world No. 13 Cameron Norrie.

The Italian got off to a strong start right away and moved the Briton from one side of the field to the other to the sound of drop shots and repeated winners. Norrie was never able to resist and only updated his score once.

In the second half of the game, a bad forehand hit by the tennis player born in 1995 allowed Musetti to take the lead by a break and manage his servings more effectively. The Italian gave no chance and signed the double break in the seventh game thanks to a fantastic lob.

The third set saw both waver on more than one occasion in service: Norrie lost the serve in the opening game, but found an excellent forehand at 3-2.

Musetti canceled a dangerous break point before sinking the shot with an explosive running passer at the decisive moment. In the round of 16, as happened already in 2021 against Novak Djokovic at Roland Garros, Musetti will find the current world number one Carlos Alcaraz on the other side of the net.

No problem for Stefanos Tsitsipas either. The Greek reached week two in Paris by clearing out Diego Schwartzman 6-2, 6-2, 6-3.
