Member of the Invincibles of 2004, Robert Pirès is delighted to see his former club triumph and once again fight for the title of champion of England, 19 years later. In an interview given to Parisian this Wednesday, on the sidelines of the clash between Manchester City and Arsenal (9:00 p.m.), the 98 world champion spoke of the shimmering game advocated by Mikel Arteta, which he compares with that of OM or RC Lens, in Ligue 1 .
“He (Arsène Wenger) wanted people to take inspiration from him and play good football. Today, Arteta, who was under his orders before being Guardiola’s assistant, managed to put that back in place. Arsenal have regained their colors and that’s why I love watching this team play. We can compare his game to that of Lens or Marseille in Ligue 1: these are teams that attack all the timeunderlines the former player transferred from OM to Arsenal in 2000. Of course, there are weaknesses, but this propensity to attack is what we would like to see more and more in football.»
