Red Bull reveals 2023 selection of young guns for F2

on

Red Bull has revealed the squad of young talent that it will support this season in the FIA Formula 2 Championship.

A total of six young drivers will be flying the energy drink company’s flag in F1’s feeder series, with three newbies and three drivers undertaking a second season in the category.

French-Algerian charger Isack Hadjar remains with Hitech Grand Prix this year, but the 18-year-old moves up to F2 in the wake of an impressive campaign in F3 in 2022.

He’ll be joined at the British outfit by fellow F2 rookie Jak Crawford who finished seventh in F3 in 2022.

The third apprentice on the grid will be the highly rated Zane Maloney who made a very positive impression in F3 in 2022.

The Barbadian, who has also been named as a reserve driver for Red Bull Racing, will showcase his talent with Carlin where he’ll be competing directly with Red Bull junior Enzo Fittipaldi.

The grandson of two-time F1 world champion Emerson Fittipaldi, acquitted himself well in F2 last season with Charouz, but will aim for the title in his second season in motorsport’s junior series.

Despite a disappointing maiden year in F2 with Prema, Norwegian charger Dennis Hauger luckily made the cut for 2023. But the 19-year-old is unlikely to be given a third chance by the uncompromising Helmut Marko so he’ll definitely need to raise his game this year.

Red Bull’s roster of 2023 hopefuls will include a single representative in the FIA Formula 3 Championship, namely Sebastian Montoya – the son of former Grand Prix winner Juan Pablo Montoya – who makes his debut in the series with Hitech.

Finally, as a reminder Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri’s official reserve driver Liam Lawson has been exiled to Japan this year to compete in the ultra-competitive Super Formula series.
