Paris Saint-Germain are set to complete a double transfer in the final days of the January window – including a move for a striker who flopped spectacularly at Barcelona.
PSG wanted to secure the services of Rayan Cherki, the 19-year-old Lyon playmaker, but he was blocked by his Ligue 1 rivals, who do not wish to lose a promising talent in the middle of the season. Even if OL should see Malo Gusto sign for Chelsea, the young right-back will be loaned to them, which would not be the case for Cherki. With that in mind, Christophe Galtier’s side have had to take a rather different approach to the transfer market.
PSG thinks of Malcom
After selling Pablo Sarabia to Wolves, the Parisians looked for a creative player at a low price and think they have found a good option in the person of Malcom, the star of Zenit. The 25-year-old is infamous for his one-season stint at FC Barcelona, who signed him for 40 million euros from Ligue 1 club Bordeaux. He only appeared in 15 matches championship and scored only one goal, remaining in the shadow of Lionel Messi and others.
Remarkably, FC Barcelona were able to cover their backs financially on the player, selling him to Zenit a year later for 40 million euros. Malcom enjoyed a resurgence season in Russia, scoring 12 goals and creating seven more in the first half of the RPL season. According to L’Equipe, PSG are considering how best to approach a deal as they are unlikely to be able to afford to buy him due to the Financial Fair Play rule. A loan with a non-mandatory transfer option seems the most likely.
” No official offers have been received for Malcom but there is interest from PSG. We are waiting for an official offer and if it arrives, we will study it,” confirmed Zenit boss Sergei Semak. At the same time, the French club are trying to sign Milan Skriniar before the deadline, while a mysterious Premier League club are interested in him. PSG are set to make an offer in the region of €10-15m for Skriniar, who is out of contract this summer and was a transfer target for the club in the summer of 2022.
