After some very borderline outings on social media last weekend in which he “tackled” the PGA Tour, Golf Channel and Rory McIlroy, six-time Major winner Phil Mickelson has arrived in Jeddah and claims to have lost 10 kilos.

Phil Mickelson, statements

Convinced of still being able to win Majors, Phil Mickelson refused to go into the details of his new silhouette, but the fifty-year-old explained that he had regained the weight of his young years in college.

“That’s my weight in college. We don’t need to go into numbers, but I’m back to where I was when I turned pro. This is the first time this has happened”.

At a press conference in Jeddah for the PIF Saudi International, the first tournament of the Asian Tour season, which also includes Oihan Guillamoundeguy at the start, the left-hander was ambitious.

Initially, I had planned to start in Mexico with three more weeks of break but in fact, I really want to play. 19 tournaments this year and so at the last minute I decided to come here to Saudi Arabia. A few months ago, Mickelson revealed he was simply in no condition to play in 2022 after spending four months in the “closet” following his vitriolic comments about the Saudis exposed by journalist Alan Shipnuck. In June, however, he made the choice to join the dissident league of LIV Golf.

“Last year was an anomaly in my career. I wasn’t ready to play at the start, I wasn’t ready to play during. I was embarrassed by the game I was producing last year. But after this offseason, I feel ready. I think I’m going to be able to play at a higher level and consistently thanks to some of the changes I’ve made that are helping me recover better. My diet, the time I devote to recovery, and even my training style. »
