Asked after Manchester City’s crushing victory on Tuesday in the Champions League round of 16 second leg against RB Leipzig, Pep Guardiola seemed in a good mood. Often criticized for his sins of pride in the Champions League, the Catalan technician joked that he would always be a failure at Manchester City, even if he won the trophy three times in a row.
“I am a failure in the Champions League. And if I win the Champions League three times in a row, I will always be a failurefirst quipped Guardiola, before deviating completely. I have three idols in my life. Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods and Julia Roberts. Julia Roberts came to Manchester a few years ago. She came at a time when we were better than United, and yet she went to visit United rather than City. That’s why even if I win the Champions League, it will still make me a failure to have been snubbed by Julia Roberts, and it won’t make up for that disappointment.»
