There’s been an update for the game’s cosmetics and Battle Passes that a lot of fans wanted, but also a major change to “toxicity handling” and how the game handles streamers that were kind of overdue.

The Overwatch 2 Streamer Mode is going to make it a lot easier for content creators to play without experiencing unnecessary harassment or problems. In the next Season of Overwatch, new tools are coming to help players. These tools should help to keep players safe from stream sniping. That’s a problem which has become bigger and bigger in recent years, with most games taking steps to allow streamers to keep playing their games without disruption. OW 2 Streamer mode will finally address streamer problems in this title.

The new features provide a few ways to cut down on stream sniping. Players now have the ability to hide their BattleTag or hide the tags of other players in the game through the client. This means that stream viewers won’t be able to see all players in a game anymore. They can also hide their current queue time. This cuts down on players queuing up at the same time to get into the same games. Overwatch will hide your queue time and add a randomised delay for your own queuing, which makes it much harder for other players to get into your game.

The OW 2 streamer mode will also hide your replay codes. This will again lock out players finding all this information just from your stream. OW 2 players can find all of these new features in the Social Options in the in-game settings for Overwatch.

Overwatch 2 clapping back at toxic players

Not every player is a content creator, but these changes are going to make Overwatch 2 a better game for players to engage with through platforms like Twitch or YouTube. Content creators and streamers are freer to engage without having to worry about stream snipers ruining the fun. These aren’t the only changes being made though. The changes detailed by Blizzard go further, addressing a few areas where toxicity needs to be fixed within Overwatch 2.

One big area where there making more changes is cheating. More and more players are going to be getting banned for cheating to try and eliminate the problem, especially in higher ranks where it has become quite common. Blizzard will be addressing players who regularly play with cheaters alongside the cheaters themselves, to cut down on the problem.

They’re also introducing moderation to custom games (After a number of pretty embarrassing games made headlines in the title’s early months). That is along with further actions to clean up voice chat.

Between the OW2 Streamer mode and these other changes, there are some decent updates and quality-of-life changes coming to the title. While the game’s days of record-breaking Twitch viewers might seem behind it, these new updates like this could go some way to improving Overwatch 2 and making it a more welcoming game to jump into.
